Although having "a roof over your head" is rightly considered to be one of the basic essentials for a happy life, we normally don't give much thought to the one over ours . . . until something starts to go wrong. Living in an overwhelmingly dry and sunny climate like that of Las Vegas serves only to lessen our concerns.
But the sun, the heat, the dry air, and not to mention the wind in Las Vegas, have the same sorts of weathing effects on the roofing on our homes and businesses as regular rainfall and snow do in other areas. We just may not notice it until the rain finally does come and we discover that significant leaks and deterioration may have been developing for a ling time.
Regular roof inspections and maintenance are definitely not a bad idea. Making sure any roofing repairs, replacements or new installations are done correctly is something we pride ourselves on at The Roof Doctor, to insure long term quality . . . and many more sunny, care-free days ahead.

Concrete Tile Roofing
By far the most popular type of residential roofing in Las Vegas and most of the Southwest. One of the most obvious advantages of a tile roof is its beauty but there are many other advantages such as lowering energy costs. Tile is durable in harsh weather when properly installed, Class A fire rated and affordable.
While it is true that the tile themselves have a usable life of many decades, the materials underneath the tiles can suffer from weathering more quickly. Most repairs are related to removing the tiles, repairing or replacing the underlay and then returning the original tiles. In our frequently windy Las Vegas valley climate, it is also common to lose one or a few tiles.
Many homeowners assume that tile roofing repairs are always going to be highly expensive. But this isn't actually true! The Roof Doctor can often perform top notch tile roof repairs for as low as 175.00.

Standing Seam Roofing (Metal Roofing)
An exposed metal roof system designed in such a way that panel sidelaps are joined in a waterproof fashion above the flat of the panel without the use of through fasteners.
Continuous panels run from the ridge of the roof all the way down to the eaves. Between the panels are seams connected by fasteners which are raised above the level of the metal roofing. This is where we get the term standing seam, because the seam is raised or standing, as opposed to flush-mounted.
considered a "cool roof" by the US Environmental Protection Agency. This is because metal roofing can be painted any color, including colors on the lighter end of the spectrum which will prevent solar heat gain.

Single Ply Roofing
is a flexible or semi-flexible pre-manufactured membrane typically made of rubber or plastic materials. Single-ply roofing comes in large rolls and must be glued or mechanically fastened to a roof and sealed at all seams.
According to the Waltham, MA-based Single Ply Roofing Industry (SPRI), a commercial roofing industry association, one of the benefits to single-ply membranes is their production; they are “manufactured in a factory to strict quality control requirements that minimize the risk inherent in built-up systems.” This consistency in the quality of the products is undeniably one of its selling points. But owners aren’t the only ones hailing the praises of these membranes. “I think most roofing contractors [and] roofers would generally find single-ply roofing easier to install, neater, and cleaner to work with. For example, with a single-ply roof, there’s not a need for one of these big kettles to heat up bitumen, so it’s cleaner,” says Vincent McPartland, vice president, sales and marketing, Stevens Roofing Systems, Holyoke, MA. Installation of a single-ply membrane is often faster as well.
At the same time that single-ply membranes were gaining market share in the United States, concerns for the environment and an emphasis on energy conservation became paramount. Single-ply membranes offered a solution – a very cool one. Light-colored, reflective roof surfaces could offer building occupants a significant reduction in energy use, points toward a U.S. Green Building Council LEED™ building certification, as well as the potential to downsize HVAC equipment. Additionally, single-ply membranes offer a lightweight solution that can accommodate the sometimes unconventional roof designs of modern architecture.

Torch Down Roofing
Torch Down Roof (Single Ply or Modified Bitumen) is a newer type roofing material most often used on flat roofs (or sometimes called low slope roofing). This material usually comes in rolls and is applied to the roof deck with heat.
Built Up Roofing
A flat roof is a type of covering of a building. In contrast to the sloped form of a roof, a flat roof is horizontal or nearly horizontal. Materials that cover flat roofs should allow the water to run off freely from a very slight inclination.
