Skillful Improvements' roots go back to 1976 as a group of painters and carpenters who were students at Dallas Theological Seminary.  The business grew under the principles of integrity, pride in craftsmanship, and good service.

    Ray Dettmer assumed the manager position in 1984.  Mr. Dettmer's background was in commercial and residential construction. He reorganized and incorporated the company, giving it the present name of Skillful Improvements in 1986.  Within a few years the volume of business doubled while in a difficult market climate.

    Beginning in 1990, Skillful joined the Greater Dallas Chapter of NARI (The National Association of the Remodeling Industry) and sharpened its expertise in remodeling.  During the nineties the company quadrupled its volume and moved to its present location in 1999.

    Also during the nineties, we became involved with an increasing number of insurance repair projects.  A new division for the company was created in 1998 to be industry specific in "restoration" or insurance repairs.  We have the resources, equipment, and training for water damage, drying out the structure, fire and smoke restoration, and handling of contents.  We have numerous certifications from the IICRC (Institute of Inspection, Cleaning, and Restoration Certification) and other bodies as well. We have also added air duct cleaning during this time as well.

   Joining the Disaster Kleenup national franchise in 1999 strengthened our position, knowledge, and training in the restoration realm. We expanded our abilities into mold remediation in 2000, and presently the company is licensed by the Texas Department of State Health Services as a Mold Remediation Company, #RCO 0169.

   Skillful offers its clients a computerized visual walk through of a project while in the design phase. This is a huge improvement for owners trying to imagine or understand what typical plans contain. We assist clients from the dreaming / conceptual stage through a design interactive method, and have a seamless integrated process bringing the project into actual construction.

   Although we have experienced tremendous changes and growth it is still true that integrity, pride in craftsmanship, and quality service still form the backbone of this company's philosophy.  We are happy to assist our clients whether in the remodeling process or restoring their homes after a loss. We are pleased to be of service to others in a "skillful" way.
